Time to switch

Thinking about switching from satellite to Virgin Media? Great news, it’s easier than you think. So, in just a few steps, you’ll soon be on your way to digital TV and super-fast broadband. Not to mention great value deals on your mobile and home phone.

1. Join Virgin Media

You can join Virgin Media online, it’s quick and easy to do.

To get started, simply use our postcode checker. This lets you know which services are available in your area. Then pick the package that suits you best and you’re ready to go.

It’s a good idea to have these bits handy:

  • Your bank account details - to set up your Direct Debit account.
  • Your BT account details, if you have one - you can normally keep your current home phone number, if you'd like to.
  • Your email address - we'll confirm everything by email.
  • Your diary - so you can pick a date that suits you for us to install your new services.

2. Cancel your satellite services

Send a letter to cancel your satellite TV, broadband or phone services to tell them that you’d like to cancel your service. Normally, you need to give them 30 days’ notice but just check the notice period in your contract.

You have the right to switch if you’re not tied in to a minimum term contract (e.g. you signed up for a minimum 12 or 18 month contract). But even then, it may be worth paying off the rest of your contract and switching now. Cancelling your service is easy. Just print off this letter, fill in your details and stick it in the post.

3. Start enjoying your new services

One of our team will visit your home to install your new cable services. Once you’re up and running you can sit back and enjoy super-fast broadband, great digital TV and a great value phone and mobile service.

Don’t be put off by the myths – switching is simple:

Myth I can’t get Virgin Media
Fact Some of our best services are delivered by cable, but wherever you live you can still get great services and fantastic deals from Virgin Media. To find out if you can get Virgin Media cable services use our postcode checker and see which services are available in your area.
Myth I can’t keep my BT phone number when I switch
Fact Yes, normally you can. If you'd like to do this, just fill in the 'keeping your own number' bit of the online order form and we'll look after the rest.
Myth Once you’ve signed up with a TV or Broadband provider, you can’t leave
Fact You’re free to leave at any time. A contract is normally 12 or 18 months. After then, you can leave without any penalty. If you want to leave before that, you can. You will normally just need to cover the payments for the rest of your minimum contract period.
Myth Installing cable means digging up my garden
Fact If you're having our cable services installed, our expert engineers will run a pencil thin cable from our network, underground to a small box which we fix to the side of your house. Then we'll connect whichever services you've chosen. We won’t make a mess and promise to leave everything as we found it.
Myth There’ll be loads of wires and cables floating around my house
Fact We’ll do everything we can to ensure the wiring inside you home is as discreet as possible. The wires usually run around the edge of your skirting board to your TV, computer and phone points but if you have any other suggestions we can take a look at them too.
