Ofcom's Code of Practice for broadband speeds

What is the Ofcom Code of Practice?
The Ofcom Code of Practice ensures that, when you come to buy broadband, you're given enough accurate information about broadband speeds to be able to make a decision about whether you want to go ahead and buy it.

What type of information will I receive?
When you take broadband from Virgin Media, we'll tell you straight away what broadband service we're able to provide where you live.

You will receive slightly different information depending on what broadband service you are able to receive because of the different types of technology involved.

The great news is that in our Cable areas and unlike ADSL broadband, all customers are capable of receive the speed we advertise. The only extra information you'll need to know is why broadband speeds can vary at different times of the day.

How will the Ofcom Code of Practice affect me as a customer?
The Code of Practice means that Internet Service Providers (ISPs) won't be able to sell broadband to customers based on an 'advertised' speed that customers might not be able to actually achieve. For example, a company might advertise a 24Mb broadband service, but might only be able to provide an up to 16Mb service based on where you live, which isn't fair on customers.

Now that Ofcom has this Code of Practice, customers will be able to make an informed decision about the products and services being offered to them, and decide whether or not they want to commit to buying the service, based on all the information.

Where can I find out more about the Ofcom Code of Practice?
